As a guest on board ex- racing yacht Wings, you will experience many of the beautiful 74 Whitsunday Islands including the famous silica Whitehaven Beach. You are invited to learn what it takes to sail by assisting the crew or relax and enjoy the ride with your new found friends.
This tour is designed for the young or young at heart, with an average age range of 18-35 years; evidenced by the new interior, designed specifically for the Whitsundays Sailing Tours. Wings boasts plenty of socialising space, dining tables, headroom higher than 6ft, 3 toilets and showers.
The thoroughbred racing background of the Wings, then named Ondine VII, includes 1st place in the World Maxi Series Race, and tough Ocean Races such as the Auckland to Suva Race. The sleek German Frers sloop design and 83ft length will make this an unforgettable experience.
The Wings Whitsundays overnight sailing tour is suitable for children from the age of 15 years old.
Wings will depart from Abell Point Marina just outside of Airlie Beach at 1pm. You will be shown around the vessel and given a brief safety demonstration as your three crew serve a fresh lunch. Set sail across the Whitsunday Passage and past the Molle group of islands towards your first snorkelling location either at Hook or Border Islands at the northern end of the Whitsunday collection. Work up an appetite exploring the beautiful underwater garden and discovering vibrant marine life. Enjoy a sunset beer and some snacks as your crew take you to your first overnight anchorage at South Whitehaven Beach or Tongue Bay (weather permitting). Dinner will be served at approximately 7pm followed by an eco-slideshow explaining some of the days flora and fauna.
After a comfortable night, awake for a delicious breakfast and explore the beautiful South Whitehaven Beach. Sink your toes into the pure silica sand and splash in the shallows looking for baby stingrays and small reef sharks. Follow your crew for a guided bushwalk through the rainforest to the Hill Inlet Lookout and take gorgeous photographs of the swirling shifting sands. The rest of your morning will be spent at Betty’s Beach on the northern end of Whitehaven Beach.
Fill up on lunch back onboard Wings as you sail to two of the best snorkelling locations on offer! Check out “George” the Maori Wrasse at Mantaray Bay, float with the tides above colourful Langford Reef, or glide alongside sea turtles at Luncheon Bay. Enjoy a sunset beer on the beach before dinner and another slide show- this time showing the day’s adventures.
It’s back in the water for your final chance to explore the vibrant underwater gardens of the Great Barrier Reef! Your passionate crew will answer any questions you may have as they sail you home to Airlie Beach by approximately 11am.
Please note: All overnight tours are subject to tidal conditions, weather, and the professional judgement of your captain.
